Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information CitizenshipED collects, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. CitizenshipED is operated by Vanaga LLC.
Effective September 29, 2026
Information we collect
We collect three kinds of information:
- Information you give us: your name and email address; if you choose to add them, your phone number, street address, city, state, ZIP code and interview date; your study language and other preferences; an optional password, kept only in a form that cannot be turned back into it; what you write to our support team or tell us when you cancel; and, if you tell us, how your interview went. Calls to our support line are answered by an automated assistant and are recorded and transcribed by our phone support provider.
- Information collected automatically: the pages and features you use and your study progress; your device, browser, operating system and language; your approximate location (country and state or region), worked out from your IP address; the website or ad that brought you here, including campaign tags and Google's ad click identifier; identifiers stored in cookies; whether our emails are opened and which of their links are followed; and records about your account, such as when it was created, whether your email address is confirmed, and notes our support team keeps about your requests.
- Payment information: card details are entered into and held by our payment provider, not by us. We keep limited card and transaction details, such as the card brand, part of the card number, order numbers and transaction identifiers, for account support and disputes. If you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay, your card stays with Apple or Google and our payment provider, and the wallet shares with us the name and billing ZIP code you confirm in it.
If you finish a practice test or begin a checkout
If you finish a practice test or begin a checkout, we may save what you enter before you pay: your email address, the name you enter on a checkout, and the interview date you give on the page after the test, so that we can keep your results and your checkout and send you follow-up messages about them.
If you use the Citizenship Test Assessment, we keep only what it concludes: which test applies to you, whether a special rule may apply, and whether you passed its test and with how many correct answers. We do not keep your answers about your age, your green card or your marriage.
If you receive a Certificate of Citizenship Assessment Completion, we keep the name you confirm for it, the date you passed and the date it was issued, and its code. Anyone who has the code can see that name and the issue date on our verification page.
How we use it
If you tell us your interview date, we use it to pace your study plan to that date, and we may email you the day after it to ask how it went; every such email has a link to turn them off.
We use information to provide the service and your account; to take payments and send account emails; to answer support requests; to keep your progress and preferences; to measure and improve the site; to measure our advertising and show our ads to people who have visited; to prevent fraud and abuse and to answer payment disputes, which can include sending our payment provider records of a purchase and its use; and to meet legal obligations.
Service providers, analytics and advertising
We share information with companies that provide services to us, in these categories: hosting and database providers; payment providers, namely our payment gateway NMI and the processor behind it, PayArc; email and support providers; analytics and advertising providers, namely Google and PostHog; and the phone support provider that answers our support line. Each receives what it needs to do that work. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or reorganization of our business.
Google Analytics and Google Ads. Our pages, including pages you see when signed in, load Google's tag. It lets Google Analytics measure how the site is used and lets Google Ads measure our advertising and show our ads to people who have visited (remarketing). Google receives your device and browser information, IP address, the pages you visit and advertising identifiers, and, on pages where an email address appears, a hashed form of that address, which Google uses to match the visit to a Google account. If you arrive from a Google ad and later subscribe, we also send Google the ad click identifier, the amount and an order reference. Through these tools, Google and other parties can collect information about your activity over time and across different websites. Google's use of the information is governed by its own privacy policy.
PostHog. Our public pages, such as the landing pages, pricing and checkout, also use PostHog for analytics and session recordings: a record of how a page is used, such as the pages opened, scrolling and clicks, with everything typed into a field and any email address or name shown on the page hidden, and the card fields never recorded. It does not run on the pages of your account or the course. If you are signed in when you visit a public page, PostHog knows you by your account number, never by your email address. It does not run on browsers that send the Global Privacy Control signal. Our own measurement of the site is unchanged. PostHog's use of the information is governed by its own privacy policy.
Cookies
We, Google and PostHog use cookies and similar technologies, such as your browser's storage, in three categories:
- Essential: to keep you signed in, secure your session and remember your choices, such as your language and your state.
- Analytics: to count visits and understand how the site is used, through our own measurement, Google Analytics and PostHog, which also records sessions with typed fields hidden.
- Advertising: to measure Google Ads and support remarketing.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we do not load Google's tag or PostHog, or set our analytics and advertising cookies, and our own measurement keeps only page counts with no identifier. We do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, but the site cannot keep you signed in without the essential ones.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as your account exists and afterwards for as long as we need it for payment records, disputes, security and legal obligations; many records have no fixed deletion date, and backup copies are kept for 14 days.
Your choices and requests
You can update most of your details on your account page. You can ask us at support@citizenshiped.com for access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information associated with your account. We may keep information we must retain for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, security or dispute purposes.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We post the new version on this page with its effective date, and if a change is material we also tell account holders by email or with a notice on the site before it takes effect.
